British Gaskets Group celebrate 90 Years of trading!

Back in 1929, the first gasket was cut by British Gaskets when the family-run company was formed in central London. Masterforms cutters then began as an on-site tooling company in 1971.

Specialist mouldings and O rings were incorporated into the companies product range in 1973 with the arrival of British Seals and Rubber Moulding Ltd. 1992 saw the development of our own range of materials, in partnership with one of Europe’s leading manufacturers. In the same year a new manufacturing site was acquired at Sudbury, Suffolk to accommodate the Groups ever-increasing customer base.

To enhance its global sourcing capacity, in 1994 the Group set out to form alliances with the Far East. As a result, a commercial partnership was formed with a leading Chinese moulding manufacturer. An automotive aftermarket facility was established in 1999 that provides the Group with a strong presence in the automotive aftermarket industry.

Further expansion in 2001 was achieved when the group purchased Cotswold Rubber Products. Diversifying to other markets the Group also launched BG Packaging.

The Group expanded again in 2004 with the acquisition of Scotland’s leading sealing distribution company, Bovill & Boyd Engineering.

2007 – 2010 saw the introductions of Screen Printing Gasket Manufacturing in Sudbury, Suffolk and the acquisition of 3D Moulding. Our Brentwood seals and gaskets distribution division moved into bespoke new premises in Sudbury, Suffolk in 2012. This has been a long-awaited move for the company. It brings our gasket manufacturing, plastic manufacturing, and distribution divisions together on one site.

BG Gaskets Sudbury manufacturing shortly followed in 2014 also moving into the main Sudbury site. 2015 saw BG Automotive (the aftermarket division of British Gaskets Ltd) announce they have been named as winners of a Queen’s Award for Enterprise – the UK’s highest accolade for business success. BG have also received our award for International Trade in recognition of our exceptional export efforts and achieving increased year on year sales figures. Now in our sixth year of international trading, we have shown that we can deliver exceptional service, meeting and exceeding the demands of our overseas customers.

Looking into the future our ambitious plans are beginning to have the desired effect. For a fifth successive year, BG has received an award from the globally recognized Caterpillar Supplier Excellence Program. Our dedication to quality whether through product, service, or aftermarket support will ensure our business will remain at the forefront of our industry. The British Gaskets Group will continue to bring world-class solutions to an ever wider range of customers. In partnership with our customers and suppliers, we will seek to meet all the sealing challenges of the 21st century.
